The
Rockbridge area, consisting of Rockbridge County, the cities of Lexington
and Buena Vista, and the towns of Glasgow and Goshen, is located
in the historic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and near the Blue
Ridge Parkway.. Less than an hour north of Roanoke, two hours west
of Richmond, and less than three hours southwest of Washington, DC,
it is a wonderful place to live, with scenic mountains and farmlands,
national forest borders on the east and west, and four institutions
of higher learning-Virginia
Military Institute, Washington & Lee
University, Southern
Virginia College, and a branch of Dabney S. Lancaster
Community College. A modern consolidated high school serves the area's
800 plus students.

Virginia Military Institute - VMI
The Rockbridge area is an ideal location for
commercial and industrial activities, with its strategic location relative
to major markets in the Middle Atlantic area. The intersection of interstate
highways 81 and 64 link the Rockbridge area to major cities--ideal
crossroads for a wide variety of economic activity.

Washington & Lee University
The local economy is strong with diversified
manufacturing, services, higher education and tourism accounting for
the majority of economic activity. For example, in 1996 approximately
400,000 people attended or participated in events at the Virginia
Horse Center located near Lexington. Another 209,000 people
visited on of the numerous attractions such as the Stonewall Jackson
House and Museum, the George C. Marshall Museum and Lee
Chapel on the campus of Washington and Lee University and
the VMI
Museum.

Virginia Horse Center
Population has remained
relatively stable at approximately 32,000, but Washington and Lee
University and VMI provide a cultural environment unmatched in an
area of such small size. The Rockbridge area has that rare mixture
that adds up to an outstanding quality of life.
